Write for us

Southern Food Journal welcomes thoughtful pitches about the ingredients, methods, histories and foodways of the South. We are interested in clear, well-shaped ideas that help readers see a familiar dish or food habit with fresh attention.

What suits our pages

Propose stories with a defined subject and a useful point of view: an ingredient examined closely, a cooking choice explained, a tradition placed in context, or a food history told with care. We value regional specificity, readable structure and a clear distinction between documented fact, interpretation and personal perspective.

A strong pitch

Tell us the working idea, why it belongs here, what readers will understand by the end and how you would approach it. Note the kinds of sources or material the story would draw on, and flag any uncertainty or competing accounts. A concise proposal is more useful than a finished draft sent without context.

Send a proposal

Use the Contact page and select the editorial question option to send your pitch. Include your name, a way to reply and any relevant details about the proposal. Please do not include confidential personal information or material you do not have permission to share.

Our point of view

Food is a way of reading place

A dish carries more than flavour: its ingredients, methods and setting tell us how people shape meals around the places they call home.
